This is the season of harvesting and preparing for winter.
The wind blows strongly. John Keats captured the scene very well when he wrote
"Season of mists and and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosomed -friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;"
Flowers begin to fade and wither, the foliage of trees, creepers and shrubs burst in bright colours, leaves fall off deciduous trees, apples fall to the ground.
Work involves tidying up the garden, collecting and storing apples, planting bulbs for the spring putting away and covering garden furniture.
