The winter has passed, things are warming up, shoots and bulbs make rapid progress. The tree buds- cheries, plums, apples and magnolias- that have been swelling during the winter begin to flower.
These are soon followed by daffodils. These plants do signify the on set of Spring. As Wordsworth wrote “I wondered lonely as a cloud that floats on high ore vales and hills, when all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils fluttering and dancing in the breeze”.
Anyone, not only a poet, cannot help being gay in such jocund company.
My gardening work in the spring consists of many things.The first is mowing the lawn, removing bunches of dead leaves from shrubs, raking out dead moss and putting in grass seeds. There is also lots pruning of evergreen hedges and shrubs that have grown up during the winter.
