Gardening in the winter

snowmansnowdropssquirrel

This season marks the end of the year and the beginning of the new.

There is not much work to be done, the ground which is hard can be forked to aerate it.

It is cold, wet and frosty and the garden looks sorry for itself. Nothing moves except for the lost- looking bird or the squirrel looking for nuts where it has not buried them. It sometimes snows and then the garden looks beautiful, the covering of snow on everything is magical. We build igloos, throw snow balls and enjoy the scenery.

After the snow, the snowdrops appear: the first flowers of the year. Their strong shoots appear pushing leaf litter aside spreading like a white carpet.

These are some of the images I see during the winter.
